Ready, Set, Go!!

Updated: Sep 9, 2020

When I first discovered the ISM program, I knew that it would be a great opportunity to delve deeper into the field of medicine as I have always been interested in the study of dermatology. So, I immediately started looking for opportunities that would set me down the medical pathway from getting my CNA license to my 2 week-long stay at a medical forum at Rice University. These opportunities soon allowed me to learn about the vastness concerning the field of medicine, and even within the field of dermatology itself. This left me questioning the exact specialty that I want to pursue in the future, although with the help of this class and my mentor I hope to make a more informed decision.

ISM has allowed me more freedom to pursue my individual goals in a “free study” style class. In ISM, I recently completed my first research assessment where I learned about the intricacies concerning the field and the importance of goals to create a more professional outlook. In setting up my digital portfolio, I found how to incorporate my interest into dermatology into a professional and inspiring website which I plan to utilize to further my research in various dermatological techniques and procedures. This freedom allows me to create a personal brand that is exclusive to myself while remaining highly professional. In the next couple of weeks, I plan to become more confident in my field by expanding my professional network, and continually improving my personal portfolio. Additionally, I plan to do more research on the new advancements and changes that have been going on in the industry to gain a greater understanding of the topic and how it has evolved over time. Overall, this has only spurred my curiosity forward as new questions about the conceptualization of the dermatological process.
